Aksom leads the startup advisory practice of the firm under the name, StartupLawnch. He deals with all matters related to startups, venture capital firms, angel investors, private equity and family offices. Aksom is primarily based out of the firm's affiliate office in Pakistan.
Aksom is one of the first few lawyers in Pakistan who developed a legal practice that exclusively focuses on startups. He has been supporting the startup ecosystem in Pakistan since 2016. He actively acts on mandates involving the GCC, Pakistan and Singapore. He has substantial experience of advising clients on legal and commercial issues around corporate matters and structures, investment vehicles, foreign direct investment, fund-raising, regulatory compliance, intellectual property and due diligence. He has in-depth knowledge of the startup ecosystem and is well versed in handling complex legal issues peculiar to startups.
His diverse portfolio in the legal sector includes advisory and support to various stakeholders with the development and drafting of legal and policy amendments with respect to the startup ecosystem in Pakistan.
Aksom's portfolio includes providing legal advisory to the leading startups of Pakistan such as Sehat Kahani, Xstate, CoNatural, Nearpeer, EZ Wage and others. In addition, Aksom advises a wide variety of startups and venture capital funds based in Singapore and GCC. He is also the legal advisor for Yango in Pakistan.
Key experience highlights include securing funding for Sehat Kahani (USD 4 million), advising Taarah Ventures in their successful investments in eight different startups (USD 5 million), advising Presstar Capital regarding their investments in sustainable textile startups, securing NBFC licenses for various fintech startups offering earn wage access and buy now pay later services, setting up of holding companies in Singapore, UAE, Delaware and acting as strategic corporate advisor for Art of Luxury Trading, Cash Itt, Singapore Accountants, and Atheneum Partners.
Furthermore, he has litigation experience in civil, corporate and banking matters at High Court level.
Aksom regularly carries out trainings and seminars for entrepreneurs, women-led startups, businesses and law students on various topics such as legal compliance, data protection, intellectual property, fund raising, etc.
He holds an LL.B (Hons.) from the University of London and is the co-founder of the legal tech startup called Mohtasib.pk.
